For the adventurer looking for a relaxing vacation this tour combines scenic cruising of Southeast Alaska's Inside Passage on the State ferry with active stops and comfortable accommodations in the coastal communities of Juneau, Haines and Skagway.

By day we will ride along scenic roads to picturesque picnic spots. At night we will sample local cuisine and stay in quaint Inns. In addition to great biking, we'll take time to enjoy other activities such as sea kayaking, hiking, rafting and glacier walking. This is the way to cruise Alaska!

Itinerary

Day one: (D) Arrive in Juneau, Alaska. Your guide will pick you up at the airport and transport you to your hotel. After unpacking and freshening up, you will meet you guide for a tour orientation, bike-fit and a ride around town followed by dinner.

Day two: (B,L,D) We depart on a morning bike ride out to the north end of Douglas Island, “the bridge to Juneau,” where we’ll have a picnic lunch. The afternoon is spent either kayaking around the bay or, in case of rough seas, hiking in the lush rainforest. Evening activity options are a bike tour around the city or a tram ride up Mt. Roberts. This tram has been in operation since 1996 and makes a six-minute ascent of about 1,800 feet, making it one of the most vertical tramways in the world. A restaurant, theater, nature center, and retail shops are located at the top of the tramway.

Day three: (B,L,D) Today, checkout will be followed by a morning ride out of the valley to the Mendenhall Glacier and Auke Bay. We depart for Haines on the afternoon ferry. After arrival we check in to our hotels followed by a brisk walk or bike ride down town to check out the sights.

Day four: (B,L,D) This morning’s activity is a bike ride out to glacial Cilkoot Lake, where we will have lunch before returning to town. The afternoon is spent rafting down the Chilkat River through the Bald Eagle Reserve, home to the world's largest concentration of bald eagles. 200 to 400 birds live there year-round, with up to 4,000 observed during the annual Fall Congregation.

Day five: (B,L,D) Our daily bike ride for the day is out to Chilkat Peninsula past the old Letinkoff Cove Cannery to Viking Beach. We return to the boat landing to be picked up and transported to Glacier Point for a tour of the impressive lake and glacier.

Day six: (B,L,D) We start the day with a hike up Mt. Riley(1,760ft) for great views of Haines, the Lynn Canal, the inlets and all the glaciated mountains. In the late afternoon we board the fast ferry to Skagway where you check in to you B&B. After some relaxing we go for a bike tour of town followed by the Day’s of 98 show, an entertaining play depicting Skagway’s colorful history to life.

Day seven: (B,L,D) We board the White Pass & Yukon Route narrow gauge railroad for the trip to Fraser Station. From there we bike back to Skagway descending the White Pass, a mountain pass through the Coast Mountains that leads from Skagway to the chain of lakes that are the headwaters of the Yukon River, Crater Lake, Lake Lindeman and Lake Bennett.. The afternoon is open for other tour options, including rock climbing, hiking or something more calm like a classic streetcar tour.

Day eight: (B,L,D) Our day starts with a bike ride out to Dyea followed by a hike on the Chilkat Trail and a float down the Taiya River. The afternoon is open for other tour options, again including rock climbing, hiking or something more sedate like gold panning.

Day nine: (B) After breakfast you have time to do dome last minute shopping or sightseeing before departing for home or extending your Alaska adventure!
