Have you ever wanted to hike a trail-less high peak in the Adirondacks, but didn’t know how to get started or pull it off?
Well this is your chance: join Eastern Mountain Sports' professional guides who'll help show you the way.
This trip will enter you into the Dix Mountain Wilderness with the chance to summit four of the Adirondacks' highest peaks, most of which have no defined trail. Our EMS guide will show you the trips and techniques for taking on these backcountry adventures while guiding you safely to the top.

You will take in great views, witness beautiful land features, climb a slide and see wildlife. An excellent fitness level will be needed to accomplish this goal.
If you have questions regarding fitness or training ideas please feel free to contact us.
Note: these dates are during a very warm month. Please be aware of high temperatures and the possibility of an afternoon thunderstorm. Prepare appropriately for your needs. The gear lists clothing for hikes and around camp.

Day one:
Arrive at Northwoods Inn for check-in by 6:00pm. You will meet with your guide for the weekend to go over any last minute itinerary and head over to Lake Placid’s Eastern Mountain Sports store to pick up any needed gear for the trip. The evening is yours to enjoy visiting the historic town of Lake Placid.
Day two: (B, L & D)
Your guide will meet you at Northwoods Inn mid-morning (9am) to caravan over to the Elk Lake Trailhead; approximately 1 hour drive. From there we will hike into Slide Brook Camping Area (2295’) (2.5 miles) and set up camp, either by lean-to or tents. This day we will hike around the camping area, gather water for the evening and the next day's hike, and then enjoy a nice meal.
Day three: (B, L & D)
Rise and shine fairly early for the long trek into the Dix Wilderness. We will have something quick for breakfast, and then follow the Slide Brook herd path to the slide up Macomb Mountain (4405’, Adirondacks' 21st highest peak). From there we will follow the ridge over to South Dix (4060’, Adirondacks' 37th highest peak) to East Dix (4012’, Adirondacks' 42nd highest peak). From East Dix we will have to retrace our steps to South Dix and follow another ridge to Hough Mountain (4400’, Adirondacks' 23rd highest peak). From Hough we will head back into the col and descend via the Lillian Brook Herd Path and back to camp. We will fix diner and relax the rest of the evening. This is a long day with over 8 miles of hiking and over 3700’ of elevation gain and loss.
Day four: (B)
This is a sleep-in day. Heck, you just knocked off four peaks. When you wake up, a nice breakfast will be waiting for you. This is a hike-out day.
