LIMA – CUSCO – EIGHT DAY TREK AROUND AUSANGATE MOUNTAIN - HOT SPRINGS – CUSCO – MACHU PICCHU – LIMA (15 DAYS)
The sacred mountain of Ausangate is visible at the end of the valley from the ancient Inca capital of Cusco. The largest mountain in the Cusco region at 6372m it is still worshipped by the locals and the ‘Apu’ god that resides at its summit.
As with all Eastern Mountain Sports treks to high places we spend time allowing our bodies to acclimatize to the high altitude in Cusco by spending time exploring the city, taking day hikes and just relaxing before the more active part of our adventure begins.
Our eight day classic hike around the awesome massif of Ausangate goes over several 5,000m high passes, through llama grazing plains, ancient Inca villages, past red, blue and green lakes and remote campsites with spectacular views. Unlike the Inca Trail you’ll meet few other western travelers and a real flavor of the high Andes of Peru.
The trek is mule supported, so all the comforts of home can be taken, leaving you unburdened to fully enjoy the hike. Our friendly staff will amaze you will their culinary skills and knowledge of the local peoples. There is nothing like hiking all day and then coming to rest for the night at our prearranged campsite, with all the work done for you. You only have to enjoy the scenery, have a great dinner and relax.
On Day-9 of this trek you’ll have the chance to climb to the summit of Campa, a 5,500m non-technical trekking peak. The views during the climb are unforgettable allowing you to see the turquoise waters of Laguana Singreachocha Lake, far in the remote distance. This is optional and if you decide not to participate you’ll have a free day to rest, read, or go for a day hike.
After the trekking journey is over you’ll return to Cusco and finish the trip with a classic train journey to the sacred mountain of Machu Picchu. You’ll have enough time to spend exploring the ruins and a guided tour will be provided so you don’t miss any information from the past.
